The 2nd Yap Canoe Festival an overwhelming success!

This year’s festival themed “Preserving Traditional Technology” highlighted various traditional skills related to canoe building and navigation. Although these skills are being used less and less today their practical uses are still viable and essential in a modern context.

This year’s festival had a broader participation from all of the communities on Yap and the Outer Islands with many more visitors from abroad who came to experience these unique traditional arts and skills. If you missed the festival this year, you will not want to miss all of the new events planned for next year as many more amazing arts, talents, and demonstrations will be displayed. Join us in this exciting three day festival as we sustain our traditional skills, preserve our cultural heritage, and demonstrate Yap’s unique talents that can be seen nowhere else in the world!
