Students
and Instructors of the TNS Navigational and Canoe Carving
Institute are gearing up for their end of the school
voyage. The voyage will be a 500 nautical mile sail from
Lamotrek (an outer island of Yap State) to Guam and return
500 nautical mile voyage to the main island of Yap. This
voyage will be the longest in the history of the two-year
cycle training program.
Master Navigator Ali Haleyalur comments that “The
voyage will be something that will make the students
show what they have learned, a voyage that will challenge
their knowledge. This will also be the first suchvoyage
on a traditional canoe from Guam to Yap in recorded history.”
The voyage will correspond with the upcoming Yap Day
Festivities to be held in Ypoa beach Guam. Departure
will be April 19, 2010 from Lamotrek. The crews of the
two canoes Hokuleah and Mathow Maram are excited to be
a part of the historic event. Crewmembers include:
