The white circular shape and centre blue void represents Yap’s unique rai stone money, a symbol of wealth, history, trust, and community. Its value comes not only from its size, but from the journey, story, and master seafarers who quarried and transported it from islands far away across the open ocean.
Together, the canoe, stone money, star, and ocean represent Yap’s culture, heritage of ancient maritime skills, and the strength, unity, and pride passed down from generation to generation for more than a millennium.
